WTW‘s VARiON® Plus Family:
On-line Ammonium and Nitrate Ion Selective Measuring – Calibration-free with Automatic Compensation

Through factory calibration and long term electrode stability (up to 18 months durability), manual calibration is now redundant.

The advantages of the new VARiON® System are unmatched. The combination sensor can deliver reliable measurements of ammonium and nitrate at the same time. The high stability of the electrodes and the redundancy of calibration efforts make it an economical solution for a 24/7 operation in direct process.
WTW’s VARiON® Plus ion selective on-line sensor technology features four flexible electrode connection slots, two for the concurrent measuring of both nitrogen parameters: ammonium and nitrate. The third slot accommodates a compensation electrode for measuring the ions that could potentially falsify the measurement result, i.e. potassium (for nitrate) or chloride (for ammonium). One of the two nitrogen parameters can therefore be dynamically compensated to achieve a more precise measurement. The fourth slot is dedicated for the reference electrode.
Now, with the introduction of the new VARiON® Plus NO3-HS, High Sensitivity Nitrate Electrode, the requirement for chloride compensation is eliminated allowing the forth electrode slot to be used for an additional parameter.
The digital data output is transmitted instantly to the IQ SENSOR NET, making the ammonium and nitrate parameter real-time for rapid, on-line process control. Combined with an efficient control strategy, reduction of the oxygen input during sludge activation can be achieved. Direct savings will be realized by reducing the energy consumption required for the oxygen pumps.
